This experiment was carried out in a commercial orchard consisting of twelve year old Red
Chief Red Delicious on MM111 planted at a row spacing of15 x 20 feet located in
Hunterdon County, NJ. Treatments were replicated 6 times with single tree plots in a
randomized complete block design. All treatments were applied at 10mm fruit expansion on
May 19 with a 100-gal FMC sprayer operated at 200 psi. Treatments were applied with a
handgun until run-off.Thinning treatments were applied on May 19, 1997 at an average
fruit diameter of 5-10 mm. Where indicted, the surfactant used in treatments was Sure Crop
90 at a rate of 0.25% v/v.

Weather at time of application was 68 F with a relative humidity of 64%. The low the
previous evening was 50 F. The sky was 100% overcast and the wind was out of the
Southwest at 0-2 mph. The day following the application, the high was 69 F and the low
was 51 F.

Data was analyzed utilizing nested ANOVA. Only Vydate L plus Accel and Sevin XLR
alone treatments increased average fruit weight significantly over the control at the 10%
level. Only the Vydate L plus Accel treatment was significant in decreasing the fruit number
