First-ever Michigan cider contest to be held
Michigan cider makers will get a chance to see who's the best in the state
this year.
Bob Tritten, Michigan State University Extension agent is coordinating the
first-ever cider contest at Michigan State Horticultural Society's annual
meeting December 2-4.
"The focus of this effort is two-fold - to help improve the quality
of Michigan cider making and to bring some media attention to our quality
cider," Tritten said.
The contest will be open to Michigan cider only for the first year. Next
year Tritten anticipates it will be opened up to out-of-state cider.
Judging will take place Wednesday December 3 in the afternoon. Cider entries
need to be submitted at the registration desk all day Tuesday and until
noon on Wednesday. Cider makers will need to bring two gallons from same
batch for the contest. There will be registration forms available at the
door and in the November issue of The Great Lakes Fruit Growers News.
The cider contest will be held Wednesday afternoon. Judges will be cider
makers and from the media.
There will be plaques and prizes for first, second and third place. A traveling
trophy given to the first place winner. All winners will be announced at
the Horticultural Society's banquet.
